Description
What is Coat Furnishings?
Furnishings (DNA marker tested – RSPO2): The presence of “furnishings” is usually observed in wire-haired dogs and is best characterized by a longer mustache and eyebrow facial-hair pattern. Like Curl, this is also inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. Therefore, dogs having only 1 copy of the furnishings allele will likely have “furnishings,” but will pass on the non-furnishings (improper coat) allele about 50% of the time.
Common Breeds with Coat Furnishings
Brussels Griffon, Chinese Crested, Dachshund, German Wirehaired Pointer, Goldendoodle, Havana Silk Dog, Havanese, Irish Terrier, Labradoodle, Poodle, Portuguese Water Dog, Schnauzer, Scottish Terrier, Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier, Tibetan Terrier.
Understanding Results
These are the 3 potential genotypes reported:
RSP02 Insertion -/- (2 copies of this non-furnishings allele) – This dog does not have furnishings. Some breeds refer to this as improper coat
RSP02 Insertion +/- (1 copy of this furnishings allele, 1 copy of this non-furnishings allele) – This dog will likely pass on the furnishings gene to 50% of its offspring & the non-furnishings gene (improper coat) to 50% of its offspring
RSP02 Insertion +/+ (2 copies of this furnishings allele) – This dog will pass on the furnishings gene to 100% of its offspring
